This is to prevent the service provider from turning off your DNS records during the transfer.

For the transfer process to be possible, your domain name must be more than 60 days old. You also shouldn't have transferred it in the last 60 days. To begin the transfer process you need a transfer authorization code from your current registrar.

Failure of the transfer to go through

It's common for the transfer process to fail to go through. There are many reasons why this might happen. One of the reasons is if you haven't approved the transfer. For the process to begin you have to authorize it by clicking on the sent email. You should check on your admin email address to start the process.

The process also won't go through if your domain name has expired. For the process to proceed, you have to renew the domain. You should note that you have to wait for 60 days before you can be able to transfer it.

You also won't be able to transfer the domain if the domain is locked. You should check the admin area and if the domain is locked, unlock it.
