Digital products come in many different forms - near enough the only common ground is that they are delivered electronically rather than as a physical product. Either way, these are some of the types of digital product you could sell. This just examples.
1. Ebooks
Electronic books are probably one of the earliest digital products to have been sold on the web.
Originally - before Adobe's PDF format became near enough the standard - they were often programmed as HTML web pages and then compiled into a file that ran (or didn't) on your computer.
Then PDF format ebooks arrived on the scene. Their ease of use and the reliability of Adobe's software meant they began to take over as the preferred format. Developers and writers like the fact that there is a lot of control available.
More recently, Amazon's Kindle has made ebooks even more popular.
And if you're looking to create a digital product, they couldn't be simpler to produce. You just write your book in your word processor, being careful only to use basic formatting, upload it to the Kindle publisher site, add in a cover and a few other things and let Amazon handle the rest of the process. Including taking payments and sending your share.
2. Video products
These are my favourite to create.
Especially since I don't have to have my face appear on the screen unless I really want to.
The best way is to create a series of slides in something like PowerPoint or even just your word processor with some page breaks (the method I used until recently).
Then set your screen capture program to record the slides and your voice narrating them. Exactly the same method you'd use if you were standing in front of a room full of people giving a talk, except that you get to pause and edit out any bits that don't make sense.
If you want to appear on screen - and it can help personalise the presentation - then that's easy with a screen capture program such as Screencast-o-matic. You can experiment with the free version but at its heart it's as simple as setting your webcam to record at the same time as you record the screen area you want.
The software is as easy to use as that - it handles everything with almost no effort on your part.
Once the videos are recorded, the best format I've found to render them in is MP4. This plays on every device I've encountered - much like it's audio sibling MP3.
3. Email membership sites
These often get overlooked because people think they need lots of bells and whistles to run a membership site.
But in reality, all you need is an autoresponder service that sends out your lessons on a regular basis.
People sign up via your squeeze page and you can optionally charge them for the information you're sending out.
